Step 2 Prevention
This is the toughest part the equation. It is only through education and our sport specific platform, that we will change the mindset of the participants from the grassroots up. Our 4-step program is supported by our website and on-location seminars throughout Canada that allows us to instill the principles of respect and safe play values in sport today. It is important for us to change the mindset and not specifically the game. Through our platform we will begin the process to help all involved realize the importance of understanding what concussions mean to us in sport today. As we now know there is no pill, no band aid or for that matter equipment that will solve this issue, we need to educate ourselves. Each one of us; coach, parent, trainer or player must fully grasp their role in reducing the incidences of concussions in hockey today.
The stopconcussions.com guidelines were created as a “code of conduct” for players to follow in order to play with respect for themselves and others. We have categorized the game into three key skill learning modules. These modules are designed to enhance skill and simultaneously teach safe hockey fundamentals. Injuries are an inherent risk in all sports, but by following the basic principles, you will be able to better prepare your players and create a safer environment on the ice.
